Responsibilities

  • Uses work orders and client instructions to set up either off-set or on-set, equipment in preparation for grading.
  • Uses creative talents to grade digital material line with client’s requirements to achieve the desired ‘look’ for each scene. Reviews graded material with Production team.
  • Follows pipelines and workflows, making recommendations for improvements where required. Proactively updates knowledge of grading techniques and media formats to keep up to date with latest developments within the industry.
  • Review the work order, technical specification and Dailies Production schedule accessible through the scheduling system or the Dailies Producer. Source and ingest the audio. Prepare the audio ready for transfer and sound sync using the appropriate software if required.
  • Grade the material in line with the client’s grading requirements, where specified using the appropriate platform e.g. Baselight, Daylight. Create ALEs for use by Editorial.
  • Complete required deliverables (e.g. DNX, 4444) and any associated documentation (e.g. TK reports) then sending all material to the client, via Fastpex/Aspera/drive/as required
  • Receive and check all digital media is contained within Framelogic in preparation for grading. Apply (if required) Color Decision List (CDL) values generated by the DIT, to the appropriate media to grade the Dailies using OSD/Daylight
  • Make minor amendments to match the colour contained in the media for each scene, using creative judgment and/or guidance from the Production to achieve a particular look e.g. Cold and grey, Vintage
  • Review the graded materials with the DoP, Director, Producers and Editorial. Make continual colour adjustments to perfect the look and feel of the scene in alignment with the DoP’s vision.
  • Proactively update knowledge of Daylight and Framelogic equipment as well as keeping up to date on Grading techniques and the latest developments within the industry.
  • Investigate any technical issues and take corrective action as necessary, documenting good working practices. Generate and maintain detailed operational documentation and workflows with Operations and Production, describing Dailies Grading methods and compliance. Adhere to Technicolor's policies and standards for all operational areas.
  • Contribute proactively to team meetings and act as an ambassador when representing Front-End outside the department and when representing Technicolor on-set. Make suggestions to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.

 

Qualifications

  • Experience of grading, knowledgeable about grading techniques and able to understand and more importantly to interpret grading briefs
  • Creative flair for colour and for creating certain ‘looks’
  • Attentive to client needs, has a network of client relationships with DoPs
  • Detailed technical knowledge of using Framelogic and Daylight for on-set productions
  • Ability to work on location, be it in a studio or on location abroad
  • Identifies problems, escalates issues, develops solutions and is accountable for results
  • Attention to detail, deadline oriented and able to organize and prioritise work
  • Flexible approach to work (able to work ad hoc weekends, nights and additional hours as required)
  • Able to work alone and as part of a small team, as required for any project
  • Proactive and reliable team player, easily adaptable to new environments.
  • Solid knowledge and experience within Dailies
  • Able to work autonomously and with little direction
  • Able to, once trained, breakdown and setup our KIT
